Sony has announced their pre-IFA press conference on September 4 in Berlin, and it’s widely expected that they’ll formally announce and possibly launch their latest flagship smartphone, which has been leaking with the code-name ‘Honami’ which is being called the ‘Xperia Z1’ by unwiredview.
The Honami has leaked countless times so far, but there has never been a solid indicator of what it will end up being called once it goes on sale. There have been mumblings a while back suggesting that it would become the Xperia i1. But according to Twitter member @doomlord_xda and backed up by the editor of Nowhereelse.fr, it seems that Xperia Z1 could be the name the device is launched on at the September 4th event.
The Z monniker would be in keeping with the current crop of devices in the Xperia line up – Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra. But of course we’ll see what happens on September 4th.
Spec wise, the current rumours show that the Honami/Xperia Z1 will come with a larger than 5″ display with a 1080P resolution, a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB Storage, a 20MP Camera – Possibly with the ability to capture 4K resolution video and a 3000mAh battery.
In terms of what it will look like, some very low res press renders have leaked from chinese site ePrice showing the back of the smartphone in what is presumed to be the launch colours – black, white, and purple. On this basis, the colours don’t really surprise us, as these are the exact colours that the company chose for the Xperia Z when it launched. And with the Xperia Z being the Honami’s stablemate, it makes sense somewhat. It’s all about Sonys love for the colour purple of course.
Like any Android related launch, we are waiting with bated breath for the September 4th event which is due to start at Midnight AEST, between Wednesday, 4 September and Thursday, 5 September and Ausdroid will be reporting all the action as it happens!!
