The Sony detachable ‘lens cameras’ designed to attach to your mobile phone have just been made official at the press event held at IFA in Berlin.
The two models are the DSCQX10 and the DSCQX100 which are available in Black and White. Both the devices pair to your device using NFC to initiate a WiFi connection and pictures are stored on an SD Card built into the unit. The DSCQX10 contains an 18MP sensor with a f/3.3-f/5.9 lens that offers a 10x Optical Zoom. The DSCQX100 offers a slightly higher end 20MP sensor but a much better f/1.8-f/4.9 lens at 3.6x Optical Zoom.
Essentially the lenses are attached to any Android – or iOS – phone via an attached clip, the phone then becomes a viewfinder for the lens and users capture pictures using the PlayMemories app, which is now available on Google Play for devices running Android 2.3-4.2. The Play Memories app gives users access to control features such as shutter speed, zoom, aperture, exposure, white balance and more.
Both lens cameras offer a video shooting mode capturing video at 1920×1080 at 30P in MP4 format. They can also be mounted on a tripod using the universal tripod screw on the base of each lens.

US pricing has been leaked via individual pages on Amazon, the DSCQX10 will sell for $248 while the DSCQX100 will be priced at $498. Both devices will launch on the 27th of September in the US.
