After opening early registrations for .app Top Level Domains (TLD)earlier this month, Google has today opened registration for all .app TLDs.
The .app TLD is the ‘first TLD with enforced security’, meaning it requires HTTPS by default. HTTPS is a security focused protocol, which Google says provides protection from ‘ad malware and tracking injection by ISPs, in addition to safeguarding against spying on open WiFi network’.
.app TLDs can be checked through get.app before Google hands you over to an actual domain registrar. Pricing for registering a domain differs, with Google Domains offering to register a .app domain for A$21/year, while GoDaddy wants $22.49 – so it pays to shop around, but Google provides links to a lot of potential registrars.
