The range of smart speakers in Australia is growing with the Google Assistant powered LG WK7 smart speaker now available to buy in Australia for $299.
Announced back in April, LG didn’t have a date for the release of the speaker at the time, but it’s showing up now on the Betta Electrical website for $299 – as well as in their current catalogue. The speaker is also being shown on the Billy Guyatts online superstore site as well for a slightly cheaper $269.
The LG WK7 combines the smarts of Google Assistant and its ability to control your smarthome, answer questions and generally entertain you with High Resolution Audio tuning from Meridian Audio with the WK7 supporting FLAC and Apple lossless audio formats. The WK7 includes a single channel 30W RMS speaker with support for Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi and of course it has Chromecast support built-in.
While LG Australia hasn’t actually announced the speaker as being available here just yet – they did add this video to their YouTube Channel last night:
When they announced the WK7 back in April, LG Australia, General Manager of Marketing Angus Jones said:
We are continuing to push boundaries and this year, it’s through our new partnership with audio experts, Meridian. The integration of Meridian Audio into the range creates incredibly impactful and realistic sound and gives new meaning to what’s possible when it comes to audio experiences in the home.
Our first smart home connected speaker is one of the stand-outs in this year’s range – the LG ThinQ Speaker – which aligns with our focus on AI and with our mission of improving the day-to-day lives of Australians through forward-thinking technology.
LG Australia has previously advised they won’t be bringing the WK9 Smart Display to Australia, so if you’re in the market for some Google Assistant powered gear the LG WK7 is where you’re going to have to look.
We’ve asked LG Australia for some more info on availability on the LG WK7 and of course we’re hoping to bring you a review as well as soon as possible.
Have you been waiting for the WK7 Smart Speaker from LG?
I ended up buying this on special for $270 a the Good Guys. Here are my brief pros and cons: Pros – Sound is noticeably better than my Google Home – even my wife commented (who normally couldn’t care less). The biggest difference is the the clarity of the bass. – It looks pretty good (if you like black cylinders). – The Google Assistant features seem the same as the Google Home (no better or no worse). – Setup was easy – it is the same process as setting up a Google Home. Cons – The maximum volume was surprising… Read more »
Please don’t tell me you think it is bad as I just purchased one from the Good Guys with a 10% promo that is now finished. I hope that this impulse buy works out. I will let you know how it goes.
Harvey Norman are claiming to have this in stock now for $299. Do you think this is a good option? I am wanting better sound than the Google Home, but don’t want to spend big $$$ buying the Max from Kogan.
