The long anticipated launch of the next generation OnePlus phone has apparently been set for October 17th, with press invites for an event in India beginning to circulate.
The invite was circulated on Chinese social media site Weibo, with the invite using the tagline ‘Unlock the speed’; combined with the image of what appears to be a smudged fingerprint in the display of the phone on the invite, it’s likely this a reference to the in-display fingerprint the handset is supposed to be utilising.
The move to an in-display fingerprint sensor, as well as the implementation of a tear-drop shaped notch in the 6.28-inch 2280×1080 resolution AMOLED display and removal of the head-phone jack are likely the biggest announcements for the OnePlus 6T.
Internally we expect the phone to be a small update on the OnePlus 6 announced earlier this year. The phone is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor, with options for both 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB storage options.
OnePlus is expected to offer similar optics for their camera on the 6T, which has steadily improved thanks to updates since launch. The rear shooter will be dual 16MP+20MP sensors with a 16MP front-facing camera.
Despite what appeared to be a moderately successful soft-launch of the OnePlus 5 back in August of 2017, OnePlus hasn’t yet returned to Australia in an official capacity, nor indicated whether we’ll see an Australian launch of the OnePlus 6T as yet. We’re remaining hopeful as their phones have continued to impress, and we’ll keep you abreast of any updates that come our way.
