Nokia is taking 2018 by storm with a constant range of Android One and Android Go Edition devices hitting the market with a fairly regular cadence.
Today they have launched their latest device and it’s an interesting one: the Nokia 3.1 Plus is an entry level device but with an included Fingerprint sensor and NFC for payments. This may be the best entry level device you can get!
To start with, the new 3.1 Plus features an all aluminium and glass body which at this end of the market is not common. Other highlights include a 6.0″ HD display, 2/3GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage, a MicroSD slot up to 400 GB, dual rear cameras (13MP + 8MP), a 3500 mAh battery, and a courage port (3.5mm Headphone jack). The other significant differentiator here is Android One. That means that this device will get a guaranteed 2 years of OS and 3 years of security updates: find another entry-level device that does that (that doesn’t run Android One).

I have to admit I’m smitten with Nokia and their unwavering support of Android One/Go Edition. I’ve bought more of their devices that I would care to admit just to see what a quality entry into the mid-level device could be like. For me though, there has been one thing lacking in these devices, and that’s a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone, Last Pass and NFC for payments. Now that the Nokia 3.1 Plus has both of those features I guess I’m going to have to buy another device to test!
The device has been announced for India at launch with international pricing given as 159€ for the 2GB/16GB variant and 179€ for the 3GB/32GB model, which would be $260 and $290 AUD before GST and local costs. We’ve reached out to Nokia Australia and will let you know if it’s coming here.
