The trend of allowing users to have Dark Mode for apps is something I personally approve of, and it’s spreading to other apps with Google Maps now allowing you to switch to permanent dark mode when in navigation.
To be clear this doesn’t enable dark mode across ALL of Google Maps – that would be great though – it simply enables it in Navigation mode. Navigation Mode usually only switches to the darker theme at night, or when you enter a tunnel etc. but for anyone who prefers the darker theme you can now force it at any time of the day or night.
The option to enable Dark Mode in Google Maps is easy to find, hidden in a toggle in the settings menu. To enable it you simply go to Settings > Navigation settings and then scroll down to Map display. Under Map Display simply pick ‘Night’ and next time you choose to navigate somewhere you’ll automatically go into Night Mode.
It’s a small step for dark mode afficianados, but one that we welcome. Next hopefully a darker theme for the whole of maps.
Good stuff Dan , the sooner we have the option to get rid of that eye searing white on the other apps as well …… all the better.
Please bring it on Google !
