The rumoured Samsung Galaxy Buds may be getting more real with a pair of Samsung branded Bluetooth earphones heading through the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for certification.
The bluetooth device which has received certification today are listed in the FCC as a ‘Samsung Bluetooth Headset’ with the model # SM-R170, a carry on from the SM-R140 of the Icon X headphones they’ll apparently be replacing.
A set of headphones with the same model # has also received certification from the Bluetooth SIG – though there’s no pre-amble there with the listing announcing the headset as the Galaxy Buds.
The test reports don’t shine much light on specs apart from the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.0, though according to SamMobile, the earbuds will be available in black, white, and yellow colour options and have 8GB of internal storage.
With FCC and Bluetooth certification now out of the way, the path is now cleared for a launch of the headphones at their Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20th in San Francisco where we expect to see the Galaxy S10 series as well as possibly the Galaxy Fit smartwatch. Knowing Samsung there’s likely some special features built-in when used with a Samsung phone, so hopefully we learn more soon.
