Beta testing for the Android 9 Pie update continues for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 customers, having received a third beta version this week. The update follows a similar release for Samsung Galaxy S8 users last week.

Though not many Australian users will be on the beta, the latest update (with version N950FXXU5ZSB1) brings a number of bug fixes, indicating the final Android Pie release for the 8th generation devices should be pretty stable.

Issues fixed include the fingerprint sensor not working in Samsung Pay, lag when switching apps, music playing when Samsung Music was closed, and others.  Some of the other issues include the camera app crashing in certain conditions, and Air Command not working sometimes.

The other good news is the latest beta update includes the February 2019 security update, showing Samsung is serious about keeping this software up to date, even for devices getting much longer in the tooth.

With Samsung’s Galaxy S8 about to be two years old, receiving the latest OS update is a significant improvement for Samsung, and something we’re very happy to see.

Unfortunately I recently Auto updated my imported A8 to Pie without thinking about it. Wow, what a mistake, it’s terrible. Obviously it’s more than likely an issue with the local network and the fact I shouldn’t be on pie yet but I get around 20-30% packet loss on 4G. Also it’s messed with a lot of the apps. The icons look like what you’d expect on a kids phone. It seems like they’ve made all these minor changes to things that were unnecessary. It wasn’t broke but they tried to fix it. I’m rolling back tonight.

Samsung s9 plus camera app has a bug. Pro mode can’t record video anymore. Only takes photos. I have told samsung but no fix still. Don’t update as you can’t go back if there are bugs

Yeh what a joke the android pie update for all s9 and note 9 was. It broke the Camera app. Pro mode can no longer record video. Samsung has been told for over a week now and still no fix. Note 8 owners be careful when you update there is no going back
