Not long ago Huawei announced updates to several phones to a new version of EMUI. Today, on the back of Google’s announcement of the Android Q Beta 3 coming to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro they have announced via Weibo their first devices that will receive the next version of Android.
The list has eight phones on it but when you consider that four of them are variations of the Mate 20 and two are P30 variations it doesn’t sound quite as impressive. The impressive feat will be when they roll the update out to the P20 and Mate 10 variations.
For the record, the phones that will be updated to Android Q (quiche can be a dessert right?) first are:
- Mate 20
- Mate 20 Pro
- Mate 20X
- Mate 20RS Porsche Design
- P30
- P30 Pro
- Honor V20
- Honor Magic 2
There is no mention in the post as to when this update will arrive but we expect the new version to bring with it a new EMUI version, version 10 — continuing to match the Android version number. Until it is released only developers can download the Android Q Beta 3 for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro but from my experience it is very buggy at the moment and wouldn’t suggest it even if you could install it.
It is good to see Huawei making a public announcement around updates — they are one of several manufacturers who have a chequered history with updates but have been performing well in that area in the last year or so. Hopefully it continues.
