If you’re a regular Skype user, you’ll know that the mobile interface has aged fairly badly. A complete overhaul that is rolling out now sees the end of that, along with the additional function of screen sharing on Android and iOS.
While many users would recognise screen sharing as a way to remotely present to other users or a team, anyone who has tried to support someone with phone functions remotely will know how frustrating that can be. The ability to see what the other person sees, will greatly improve the speed and reliability of support without the need to download third party apps or pay for extra licensing you only need once.
In their blog post, Skype summarised the screen sharing function:
Whether you have a last-minute meeting on the go, or your dad doesn’t know how to use his phone—screen sharing on Android and iOS lets you get it done from anywhere. Maybe you want to shop online with your best friends, or you need to collaborate with someone on the other side of the world from the comfort of your couch—no need to drag out the laptop! Simply start a Skype call, tap the brand new “…” menu, and start sharing your screen.
If you’re using Skype as a social video calling option, then you’ll find that the interface is far less intrusive. The ability to get rid of controls with a tap to the screen is wonderful for a more personal experience.
If you’re yet to see it, keep your eyes out for the app update. It is a worthwhile update to grab ASAP.
