We’ve talked about Sony‘s QX10 and QX100 “lens-style cameras” a lot in the past, and it’s nice to see Sony committing to keeping the cameras up to date with new firmware.
Sony’s January update introduced a few new features: Users now have the ability to change the ISO setting, an increased video recording resolution from (up from 1440×1080 to 1920×1080, or 1080p) and added a Priority Shutter speed function to the QX100.
If you’ve been waiting to jump on board the lens-style camera bandwagon, Sony isn’t actually the only game in town. Taiwan-based Altek launched their “Cubic” camera in December, and we’ve seen reports that Kodak is developing a competing product called “PixPro”. Sony’s move to bring new features to their QX cameras might be preempting these competitors moving into their territory.
We’ve yet to get our hands on QX camera review devices, but if you already own one you can download the update from Sony’s product support pages.
