With the launch of the Pixel 4, Google also announced their take on a traditional voice recorder app, simply called Recorder.

Of course, being Google it wasn’t a simple audio recording app, no, it’s embued with Machine Learning enhanced features that enable live transcription as it records, which in turn enables searching within the audio stream.

Unfortunately the Recorder app is a Pixel 4 exclusive, however, there may be hope on the horizon. According to one Googler on Reddit, the team behind the Recorder app is intending on rolling out to older Pixel devices at the very least.

It will be interesting to see if Google enables the app on other OEMs hardware, especially for OEMs like Huawei’s Kirin 9xx series which includes significant ML capabilities on the chip. It will also be interesting to see if Google enables in the cloud support for some of the more powerful features, allowing users who don’t mind their audio leaving the device to get all the ML benefits without having the latest device.

Not that it’s any use to you yet, but here’s the Play Store listing.
