OnePlus continue to expand their business each and every year in recent times and next year is set to be no different with the release of three phones at once, the first time they’ve done this.
According to a leak today, which is fairly sketchy and should be taken with a decent helping of salt, there will be three variants of the OnePlus 8 released next year — OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. As you would expect the specs for each of these phones start at the mid-range and finish at the premium OnePlus 8 Pro.
OnePlus 8 Lite
OnePlus are apparently introducing a mid-level device, most likely for emerging markets as they continue their push into India. The OnePlus 8 Lite will still arrive with some decent specs though.
It will have a 6.4-inch hole punch 1080p 90Hz refresh rate OLED display with a fingerprint sensor underneath and covered with Gorilla Glass 5. Although the processor is a MediaTek 1000 chipset and not a Qualcomm Snapdragon it will still pack 8GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of onboard storage.
The camera will be a triple rear camera setup — 48MP, 16MP and 12MP. The 4,000mAh battery will support 30W fast charging and include an IP53 rating.
OnePlus 8
The OnePlus 8 will this year sit between the Lite and the Pro and have specs as such. The 6.44-inch 1080p 90Hz refresh rate OLED display with a fingerprint sensor underneath is this time covered with Gorilla Glass 6. Apparently the mid-upper end device will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 and thus include 5G support.
The 32MP selfie camera will be paired with a triple rear camera setup, 60MP, 16MP and 12MP this time. The phone will once again house a 4,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.
OnePlus 8 Pro
The flagship of the trio, the OnePlus 8 Pro, will once again be powered by the highest of high end specs available in most areas. The 2K display will this time feature a 120Hz refresh rate and be 6.7-inch in size. Rather than a pop-up camera this time they are going with a punch hole display housing two front-facing lenses.
Thee rear camera setup will be capable of 10x hybrid zoom and encompass a 60MP, a 16MP and a 13MP lens.
The battery will apparently be a dual battery (unsure why — space saving maybe?), 2,250mAh each for a total of 4,500mAh. It will support the massive 50W Super Warp Charge but still no wireless charging.
It will be available in 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/512GB variants with the RAM being LPDDR5 RAM and the storage 3.0 UFS.
Of course all this is taken from some random images posted on Weibo so should be taken with a grain of salt. It would not surprise us if they were correct given how specific they are, even the Lite version.
Once again it is extremely unlikely that we will see any of these released here in Australia but that hasn’t stopped many of us in the past from importing and won’t stop many of us in the future. We will most likely see more about these pop up in the next month or two, keep an eye out.
There is no longer an excuse any more for them to not sell in this country. With concept phones and potentially 3 models etc it all points to they are just not interested.
I love my 5 and 6T and due for a new one with the 8T.
