If you think navigating the world around us, in particular the technological world is easy: Try shutting your eyes and using a touch screen device. It was this fact — with consideration to the 53,000,000 blind or vision impaired people on earth — that Google looked at improving the screen navigation experience: Enter TalkBack screen reader.
Working with users in the vision impaired and blind cohort, Google has developed a range of customisable gestures to suit needs for navigation, media playback or even to trigger a screen reader.
The accessibility improvement has also made its way to voice controls. You can complete a huge number of functions via voice input such as locating content, changing the speech rate or navigating through your device.
For the short term, this is available on Samsung devices that have been updated to OneUI 3.0 and Pixel devices. Hopefully other manufacturers come onboard to spread accessibility across the connected world.
