What is Backbone?
For those who were unaware, Backbone is the gaming alchemist, transforming your iPhone or Android device into an ultimate gaming console with a single snap. With Backbone, you can unleash your gaming prowess on any game or service that supports controllers, from Apple Arcade and the Google Play Store to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Heck, you can even stream directly from your Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, turning your phone into a portable gaming powerhouse. Ausdroid previously reviewed Backbone One PlayStation Edition for Android and we really liked this mobile gaming controller.
Now that the second-generation Backbone One is here, complete with magnetic adapters that guarantee a tight and secure connection for your phone, even when it’s in most cases. Pair it with the Backbone app, which effortlessly gathers all your games into a single, user-friendly hub, and you’ve got the ultimate gaming experience right at your fingertips.
Where to buy?
Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 are available for AUD 179.00 from Backbone, Amazon, JB HI-FI, and Harvey Norman. Just FYI, if you have an iPhone equipped with a Lightning USB connecter (models before iPhone 15), make sure you choose the first-gen for the Backbone One gaming controller as it was designed to work with iPhones for the earlier models.
Product review on the way
We’re eager to revisit this amazing gaming controller for its 2nd generation. In our previous review, it was disappointing to find that the controller lacked compatibility with many phone cases, requiring users to remove their phones from their cases for them to fit properly. Once the review unit becomes available, we’ll certainly conduct a follow-up and share our findings on its improvements! Stay tuned for more updates!
