That’s the title shot of the first version of Tetris, I and many other people first saw. The CGA version on an IBM PC or Commodore 64, Tetris was the first game which launched in the US, with origins in the USSR, a big achievement during the time of the cold war, and yesterday it celebrated it’s 30th birthday.
Originally, it was Spectrum Holobyte who brought Tetris to the world, but if you look on Google Play, it appears that Electronic Arts now holds the reigns of the rights to Tetris. You can grab Tetris from EA on Google Play, or if you’re not so keen on EA, or in-app purchases which their version has, you can grab any number of Tetris clones from Google Play.
The game is certainly a cultural phenomenon and pretty much everyone has at least played it once. There’s many fanatics, and if you like a good documentary, check out Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters. I have fond memories of the game, more from watching my mother and elder sister play it, in an intense competition to see who could claim the top score. I think I must be one of the very few who have never played Tetris.
