With the arrival of the LG G3 not to far away, those with an LG G2 who are into modding may wish to make their G2 look like a G3.
Developer OptimusRS has now brought us the aptly named “Optimus G3 ROM” to the G2. The ROM was ported from the official Korean LG G3 F400K and is based on the LG D802 20d firmware.
The new ROM essentially brings the cleaner, less colourful UI of the G3 over to the G2 and there’s also support for 4K video recording, and a number of other improvements originally designed for the G3.
As always, there are bound to be a few minor bugs but hopefully the ROM is fairly stable and able to be used daily rather than for just playing around.
There’s a couple of prerequisites; your device needs to be rooted and have a custom recovery installed, and you need to do a full wipe (Wipe Date/Factory Rest, Wipe Cache, System, Data) before installing. You will also need to flash the KK Baseband if you don’t already have it.
The installation of the ROM seems pretty straightforward according to the XDA thread , providing you are familiar with custom ROM’s etc.
As always, things can go wrong when installing custom ROMs so proceed with extreme caution.
As in the “Lorax” movie, “You, have been warned!”
The full instructions and the ROM are available from this XDA thread.
So if you have a G2 and like the look of the G3 but don’t want to fork out around $800 to upgrade, maybe you can try this ROM and let us know how you go.
why doesn’t LG update G2 UI? or the update already on the way?
