whatsapp-tfjMany people have heard of WhatsApp, which is arguably one of the world’s most popular messaging services, with clients across all major platforms. As is usually the case, a popular product or service generates a lot of 3rd party interest, and WhatsApp isn’t immune.

While the now-Facebook owned company previously tolerated 3rd party apps that used its service, that time seems to have come to an end, at least for now. A rather popular 3rd party app known as WhatsApp+ is attracting the most attention at the moment, and users of it are being targeted by WhatsApp with temporary bans from the service for violating terms of service.

WhatsApp have caged this in user protection terms, stating that users of WhatsApp+ cannot guarantee that their personal information isn’t being shared with unknown parties without knowledge or consent. While that’s probably a bit unlikely, it is equally possible, so for the time being, users of 3rd party WhatsApp apps are encouraged to use the official app to avoid having their service suspended.

You can probably expect the WhatsApp+ developer to work a way around this, but it seems that it’ll be one of those cat and mouse games where WhatsApp is unlikely to relent; I’d say the game is up.

Are you a WhatsApp+ user? Have you been affected by this? Let us know.
