OnePlus has made an announcement overnight regarding the release of the long awaited Lollipop update for the OnePlus One. The announcement covers both the CyanogenMod 12S release which is hotly anticipated by customers who saw the inclusion of the ROM as a major selling point, and the first release of OxygenOS, the ROM developed after OnePlus and Cyanogen had a falling out over availability of software in certain markets.
The release dates are all coming this month, with the OxygenOS ROM arriving first, although followed very closely by the CyanogenMod 12S release. There were some issues with the development of the Lollipop update, with issues for ‘OS signing’, as well as Wi-Fi and other ‘crucial’ drivers.
The time frames for launch of the ROMs are :
- CM 12S: The official OTA update for the OnePlus One will be released on or before March 30, 2015
- OxygenOS: The official release of our own Lollipop-based ROM will be available for download on or before March 27, 2015
Those are some specific dates, and OnePlus is confident they’ll meet the self-imposed deadline. But, they have promised to give away five 64GB OnePlus One handsets if they miss that deadline – if you reply to the source thread at the bottom of this post.
We’ll wait and see, but this looks promising. We’ll have all the Ausdroid team with their OnePlus One’s updating when they can and check out both CM12S and the new OxygenOS as soon as they’re available.
Really can’t wait to see how CM12 and lollipop looks and feels on my OnePlus One.
yay.. mine is still on it’s way from the reposting service but this is good news.
