Earlier this year I reviewed the LG Watch Urbane and was very impressed with it. It seemed to be a premium smartwatch that did also come with a premium price. Now it appears that it wasn’t premium enough for the folks at LG and they have upped the ante to a whole new level of premium. From LG’s Korean Press site comes news that in four days time LG will announce the “LG Watch Lux control vanes (LG Watch Urbane Luxe)”.
The new smartwatch will have the same internals as the LG Watch Urbane including a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 1.3in plastic OLED display with a 320×320 pixel resolution, 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal memory, and a 410mAh battery. The differentiating factor between the original watch Urbane and the deluxe version is that the new deluxe version is engraved out of 23K gold and has a crocodile leather strap. The LG Watch Urbane Luxe comes packed in a luxurious wooden box and will be priced at $1200US, over twice the price of the original Watch Urbane. Only 500 of the new deluxe smartwatches are to be made with each engraved with the limited edition serial number on it and will only be available through Reeds Jewelers in the US from October.
With high end watchmakers such as Fossil and Tag Heuer looking to break into the smartwatch market it is not surprising to see one of the current makers introduce a premium product. While it does not seem to be available here in Australia there are always mail forwarders if you are looking for splash out for a gold smartwatch.
Certainly won’t be parting with nearly $1,700 for a watch that has technology that will be obsolete in three years time.
