Australian car hire companies are making quite a few electric cars available as we’ve discussed recently on Ausdroid.

SIXT Australia is expanding on their existing range of Tesla, Hyundai, BMW and MG electric cars by adding over 500 BYD Atto 3 SUV’s as an exclusive to their electric car hire fleet.

Reuters reported in October 2022 that:

“Sixt (SIXG.DE) has committed to buying around 100,000 electric vehicles from China’s BYD (002594.SZ) in the coming years under a new partnership agreement signed by the two companies”

SIXT Australia CEO, Matthew Beattie commented:

“Whether heading on a family road trip, a weekend away or a business trip, the BYD’s we will have in our fleet will make choosing an EV even more attractive for customers and corporates looking to save on fuel costs and minimise their footprint”.

“The BYD ATTO 3 is an exclusive offering with SIXT for anyone looking to rent one in Australia. They offer an uncompromising EV experience with a 400km manufacturer advertised charge range”

Aussies who hire any brand of electric car from SIXT:

  • Can use Chargefox (one of Australia’s largest fast charger network) for free
  • Receive NRMA roadside assistance with all rentals

The roadside assist and free charging offers are because the SIXT brand in Australia is owned by NRMA which also co-owns Chargefox.
