After the Australian launch of the Galaxy Camera at the event in Sydney last night, we’ve been intrigued with the concept and really can’t wait to see where we can get our hands on one. Scott one of our podcasters found it on the Harvey Norman website where it is available to pre-order for $596 with availability listed as Mid-November.

At $596 this camera is packed full of features and functions and with Jelly Bean pre-installed as well as a 3G radio it is very hard to look past. I certainly cannot wait to get my hands on one so I’ll be keeping an eye on my local Harvey Norman store to get a closer look. Will you be buying a Galaxy Camera or at least checking it out?

I’m really tempted by this camera but not at that price.
Price is a bit high and who wants 3G on the camera Wifi yes but no need for 3G other than that I would get one.
I think to get this market started a less ambitious and costly model would have been better. Something with the specs and screen size around about that of a Nexus S.
Reduced price – reduced size, usable screen + usable performance – but it introduces the public to the idea of a network-connected camera at a lower cost-point.
Instead its a badly shaped smartphone with excellent rear-facing camera and no phone-calls.
Nuh. Won’t sell. This is a sh*tty point and shoot with 3g. Who cares? You can get a basic DSLR at that price now and an equivalent quality point and shoot for $200. S
sh*tty is not what I would call this device. I had a play with it at the launch, and I was rather impressed with the software as well as the quality of the shots taken.
You miss my point. It is a point and shoot… they all take similar quality shots. You can’t really change the settings like on a proper DSLR. Who cares if it has 3g when it costs 400 more than other point and shoots, but takes no better shots
I’ve been looking at upgrading my camera recently, and the camera I was looking at is only $150 cheaper than this one and doesn’t have the added abilities of photo/video editing or uploading to various social networks. For me, that is worth the price difference. (Most other specs are similar)
Just had a play with one of these things. They are HUGE. Needs to get much more compact to compete with other compact cameras!
I disagree. The 4.77″ screen is one of the features of the camera, and it really allows you to do in-gadget editing, (not to mention logging into your social photography networks), easily. Also, to house that fantastic 21x Optical zoom needs some serious housing.
