Infinix2
One of Google’s cheapest Android One handsets which was announced for Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco last month has also landed in the United Arab Emirates thanks to thesouq.com.

The handset is retailing for a delightfully cheap 299 Emirati Dirham (AED) (around $116 AUD) through online retailer thesouq.com in three colours – Champagne Gold, Black and White.

The Infinix Hot 2 of course comes pre-loaded with stock Android 5.1 and is guaranteed updates beyond thanks to the reference design which allows Google to feed updates to the handsets quickly without any carrier or OEM involvement.

Hardware wise, the Infinix Hot 2 comes without LTE, but does contain solid 2G/3G support which is important in the developing nations where the Android One initiative is aimed at – though looking at the Vertu handsets and solid gold iPhones in the Dubai airport wouldn’t really scream ‘Developing nation’ to the casual observer.

The specs on the Infiinix 2 include:

  • 5” HD (720×1280) resolution screen
  • 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB on-board storage with microSD Card slot
  • 8MP Rear Camera with LED Flash
  • 2MP Front Camera
  • 2200 mAh Battery
  • Android 5.1
  • 145×71.86x88mm

For the accessory conscious there’s also a ‘Smart Cover’ for 29AED as well as the all important Screen Protector for 19AED.

If you’re in the UAE you can order the handset from thesouq.com now.

Yet another attractive and very affordable Android One phone… Seriously wish we could get these in Australia, what with Nexus device pricing creeping steadily upwards.
