When announced in September last year, the Nexus 6P Gold version was originally announced as an exclusive variant for Japanese carrier Softbank. Since the launch it appears it was a limited exclusive, with Huawei today announcing the phone is available to buy from the Google Store and Best Buy in the US – unfortunately the exclusivity remains with no option to buy it here in Australia.

The US Google Store is now showing the Nexus 6P in gold, and there is a Gold option in the Australian Google Store – with the phone priced the same as other colour variants. Unfortunately it seems that just like the ‘Sand’ coloured Nexus 9, even though we can tantalisingly see the Gold circle in the Australian Google Store, it remains crossed out and attempts to select it advise you that ‘This configuration is not an option’.

Having picked up a couple of dummy units of the Gold and the White (still looking for a Graphite), I can tell you the Gold does indeed look spectacular – though the Silver remains my personal favourite – although with Force Awakens now in Cinemas that Stormtrooper Frost White is looking mighty fine as well.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the Gold option in the Google Store, if we hear of any changes coming we’ll be sure to let you know.

I ordered the black 6P and they delivered the white version… I’m now waiting for stock of the black 6P. I’d love gold instead!
