Moto India have teased the announcement for the 2016 Moto G and Moto G Plus, confirming it’ll beat 3pm local time (Indian Standard Time) today which will be 7:30 PM for us on the eastern sea board. Additionally we have what looks to be very genuine and believable images of the Moto G Plus retail packaging and the phone itself:

If the rumours are true we could be seeing the Moto G launched with a 5.5″ FHD display, Octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 16MP rear camera paired with a 5MP front facing camera. The Moto G 2016 also seems to come with swappable back “Shell”, a fingerprint sensor, a 3000 mAh battery with “turbo” charging.

You can catch the live stream here at 7:30 pm tonight, so come back and join us then:

I think you mean 8:30pm AEST

They should have kept it at 5″ for people that want smaller handsets. Now the Moto G, Moto X Play and Moto X Style will all have 5.5″ screens. The rumour is that the Moto G has the Snapdragon 617. Perhaps the X Play will have the 650 or 652.

Nope, they should have just put the same hardware in the regular sized moto G and kept the plus variant as is for people who like big screens. I like small screens but that’s no reason to deprive the people who like big screens of such a device 😉

What processor and screen size will the new Moto G (non-Plus) have? That one’s not being announced tonight? I’m all confused. 😉

Joshua Hill

Like you said i think it has the SD617, only 16gb of storage. If the rumoured specs are close to true it is a serious downgrade compared to the plus. All I was saying was Moto should release two different screen sized phones with the plus specs, similar to what Sony used to do with the Z compacts. No reason to deprive people who like big screened phones of this decent looking device. You were saying the plus should come with a smaller screen which would mean there is no bigger screened device. I was suggesting Moto should just make… Read more »

The G and G+ both have the SD617, so the only differences between the two are the fingerprint scanner and camera. If they’re going to have multiple RAM and ROM versions for each, it’s a bit silly.

Joshua Hill

They are going to have multiple ram/versions apparently. 16gb/2gb for the g as the only option and 16/32 with 2/3/4gb options for the g plus.

Although different websites are claiming different options. Well have to wait a bit longer to have it 100% confirmed.

It seems the regular g and the g plus will both have 5.5″ screens. I thought I’d heard the g was going to be smaller. Now I know why you were confused. My bad.

Android Police say there will be a third moto g play with a 5″ screen but only a snapdragon 410, so not really worth considering.
