OPPO are building their presence not just in Australia but the world market. They are available in over 20 markets and can be purchased in over 50 additional countries through online stores. For this reason we keep a close eye on OPPO releases throughout the world. Overnight OPPO have released a new version of the OPPO F1 to India, the F1s.
The F1s continues the lineage of high-end photography started with the Oppo F1 and as with other phones in the Oppo range, the focus is on the Selfie. The Oppo F1s comes with a 16MP front camera and what OPPO are calling a “next-level feature set”. There’s a 13MP rear camera on the rear, but it’s that front camera that gets the focus here.
Along with the higher end camera sensors, the F1s sports a fingerprint reader, 32GB storage memory and a TRIPLE sim slot that offers not just dual sim capabilities BUT ALSO an expandable memory slot for support of up to 128GB microSD cards. This is all backed by a large 3075 mAh battery that supports OPPO’s proprietary turbo charging, VOOC Flash charging. Powered by a Mediatek octa-core 64-bit processor with 3GB RAM, the phone should have enough grunt to use any app.
The F1s has a 5.5-inch HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 with a sleek aluminium body that is available in Gold, Rose Gold, and Grey.

The selfie camera comes with a 1/3.1 inch sensor and a large f/2.0 aperture promising a high dynamic range while minimising noise. Combined with OPPOs beauty mode it can produce great selfies even in low light. Both front and rear cameras offer “Beautify 4.0”, providing seven levels of beautification and two skin tone modes (personally I dislike these modes but one look at Instagram shows that most people love them). The rear camera has taken a bit of a backseat to the front camera although it is still no slouch with an aperture of f/2.2. To top it all off there is a panorama selfie mode- imagine what Ellen could have done with that!
The fingerprint reader brings functions that many other others wish their phone had (and a few do). The ability to unlock your phone with different fingers and have different apps launch upon unlocking depending on which finger was used to unlock the phone.
As always, the talking point of these phones is the software they run. The OPPO F1s will run ColorOS 3.0 based on Android 5.1 which includes a speed increase of 30% over that of ColorOS 2.1 on the F1. Time will tell whether it has improved but we hope to test one out soon. Hopefully they also make their AOSP-based ROM, ProjectSpectrum, available for it in the future as well.
It is definitely coming to Australia and hope to have more details on an exact date soon. Starting at a price of just $275US in India it promises to be a great phone at a very affordable price.
Oppo do make great phones – BUT – I have an Oppo R7 Plus, my son has a R7s, (both awesome phones for the money) both on Android Lollipop 5. This F1s (I believe) has Lollipop as well. Marshmallow 6 is available to update for my R7 Plus (but a bit buggy I hear) but Android Nougat 7 is almost upon us already.
