Oppo have officially announced their latest Android Smartphone the R9s, and it will be headed to Australia soon. We’re not sure how but let’s check out the official specs of the device. The R9s is a 5.5″ FHD device backed up by a Snapdragon 625 paired with 4GB of Ram and 64GB of internal storage. Oppo seems to be focusing on the Sony IMX398 16MP front and rear facing sensors and new ‘striped antenna design’.

The device is very similar to other Oppo designs, which in the increasingly homogeneous smartphone design landscape is becoming less distinctive with all metal construction, rounded edges and the typical glass slab panel. I’m sure many people will draw comparisons to other devices on the market but at this stage, I think they are all starting to look alike.

Oppo have really pushed the quality of the dual 16MP sensors with the R9s touting both focusing and image capture speed. If Oppo deliver on their promise we may just have seen the arrival of the first affordable great camera experience on Android and that’s a big deal. With Australia as a Tier 1 release market for the new device we expect to be getting more details on pricing and availability soon.

We will of course, be giving the Oppo R9s the full review treatment as soon as we can get our hands on one.

Are you excited for the Oppo R9s?

I was really hoping they would have the SmartSensor but alas that must be for the fabled unicorn Find 9

Looking forward to the R9s soon, followed by the R9s Plus later this year.

The R9s looks great on paper and builds upon the fairly decent R9. It needs to be keenly priced around $500-$550 to make a dent in to the Aussie market.

Hopefully Ausdroid can get in touch with Oppo Australia for an ETA and a price 😉
