Nokia branded Android phones are the hot topic at the moment. The buzz surrounding them has not been surprising given the quality hardware they used to produce in the Microsoft days. We have seen several leaks recently with official promises of more to come at the end of February. Today we have seen a rumour circulating regarding one of the Android phones they will be announcing, possibly at MWC.
Todays rumour involves a Nokia flagship, the Nokia P1, which they are set to unveil during MWC 2017 at Barcelona. The device is set to be modeled on the Sharp Aquos Xx3 (see below) which was released in Japan last year. With Foxconn owning Sharp now and also being entrusted to build the Nokia handsets this is entirely feasible. The apparent specs inside the Nokia P1 are impressive:
- 5.3 inch display full HD or QHD
- Gorilla Glass 5
- Snapdragon 835 SoC
- 6GB RAM
- 64/128/256GB Storage, with microSD
- 22.6MPixels Carl Zeiss camera
- IP57 certified
- 3,500 mAh battery
- Android 7.0 Nougat
Seems too good to be true with some really high end specs but as always there is a cost and this one is quite high. The 128GB version is rumoured to cost US$800 and US$950 for the 256GB version. These prices most likely put the phone out of most people’s price range- convert that to Aussie dollars and then add the Australia Tax and you are looking at the most expensive phone in Australia.
This is only a rumour of course but often rumours have at least a grain of truth within them. Hopefully it is only the cost which is wrong here. We will have boots on the ground at MWC to bring you any announcements that Nokia make as well as a hands on with any luck.
