After news of the code names for Google’s Pixel phones leaked yesterday, a new report has linked a third code name to a Google developed phone that is also in the works.

The report from Android Police yesterday listed ‘muskie’ and ‘walleye’ to the upcoming Pixel 2017 phones, but Droid-Life today has thrown out ‘taimen’ as a third device that is being worked on internally at Google. According to Droid-Life, the taimen will be a phone, not a tablet or hybrid device. It’s also going to be big – Nexus 6 size big too, with ‘a bigger screen than “muskie” and “walleye”.’

Droid-Life is under the impression that the device is being developed seperately to muskie and walleye, so what is the taimen, is it a lower end ‘big’ phone? A Google Tango device? Is it just a prototype that won’t make it to market?

Like the ‘walleye’ model leaked yesterday, the Taimen has so far not appeared in the AOSP gerrit, but that’s not to say it’s not being worked on.

The taimen, like muskie, walleye and all the other code names Google has used for their hardware previously is a fish – more precisely it seems to either be a brown trout or a ‘Siberian Salmon’ depending on which Wikipedia article you read (any ichthyologists care to weigh in?). The pictures for the Siberian Salmon certainly show a large fish, so that fits.

The concept of a large, Google developed phone is surely intriguing to a number of users including the owners of the Nexus 6 which has stopped receiving platform updates as of the Nougat release. We’ll find out at some stage when Google is ready to share.

Could be a Galaxy Note style device (complete with pen).

Hoping for a tablet and not a phone.

Yawn. Bigger phones yet again lol

It will never happen but if manufacturers especially our beloved and holy Google are going to release 3 screen sizes I beseech all the gods ever imagined to make the smallest device have a screen size of less than 5″

Sonofabitch, I’m gonna have to wait even longer to change my dying Nexus 6. Sucker for a large phone.
