The Google Pixel is still one of the best smartpones on the market, even with phenomenally good phones from HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony and even LG now available, and now you can get it for a $200 discount.

The model on-sale is the 32GB Very Silver and Quite Black Google Pixel – the 5″ model – which is currently discounted from $1,079 to just $879. The Pixel really is one of the best phones out there thanks to the stock Android experience, almost immediate updates and extras like unlimited, full resolution online photo storage through Google Photos.

Specs are getting a little long in the tooth with the Snapdragon 821 processor being very much outperformed this year by the Snapdragon 835 in phones like the HTC U11 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The photos from the Pixel though are still up there with flagship phones from 2017, so it’s well worth it. What else is inside the phone? Here’s the spec list:

The Google Store is still listing this one at $1,079 and the Pixel XL is still at the same price. We’re looking at a new model Pixel in just a few months, so it’s getting down to the wire with this phone, but at this price it’s still worthwhile looking at. Head over to the JB Hi-Fi website to check it out.

Would love to jump on that but I have a couple of problems.

1. I don’t have a JB Hi-Fi near me.
2. They use the worst shipping company evar (Toll – or as I call them, Troll} to deliver phones (along with anything outside of CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and 99% of games).

$200 off is a good deal on a Pixel.

A Pixel shouldn’t be weighed against other phones on things like specs.

The performance, camera, security and reliability of the phone make it a good buy for someone that wants an iPhone like experience.

And you get timely updates containing important fixes that the other guys neglect. To me, that is worth more than waterproofing or a newer processor that doesn’t necessarily make a phone any faster.

I know other people have different priorities and that is totally cool too.

This is far from a good deal. The Nexus range was a good deal without being on sale. The Pixel range is a joke to lure the simple folk that buy iPhones.

The only two ‘good’ value Nexus phones were the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 – both were apparently heavily subsidised by Google to get those ‘good’ prices.

The Nexus 4 had no LTE and the Nexus 5 skimped on battery and camera specs to get there. Stop dreaming that the Nexus line was good value.

The Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 6 and then Nexus 6P were all almost, or more than a $1000. The Nexus 5X which is a dumpster fire of a phone was cheap and nasty.
