LG’s V-series phones have been a quiet hit for the company, with the second screen experience and high-end camera. The second screen is set to be dropped though, with renders of the device showing no second screen. A new leak however has new details on the second screen, as well as information on the camera.
According to an internal source talking to Android Authority, the second screen experience will be replaced by a ‘floating bar’, though exactly what this floating bar will be, or how it will work is not actually outlined. It could possibly be similar to the Chat Heads style of floating icon used by Messenger, or something else entirely.
On the camera front, LG will be pushing boundaries again, offering an f/1.6 aperture with a ‘Crystal Clear Glass’ lens. The improved aperture will allow for things like better low-light performance and other effects. This aperture will put the V30 ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ which has an f/1.7 aperture, though what resolution the LG V30 sensor (or sensors) will be has not been confirmed, though rumours are talking about 13MP sensors.
The source also advised that the V30 will use an OLED display, a FullVision type display as seen on the LG G6 with the same rounded corners and HDR 10 support. The LG V30 display will be 6.0″ in size and have a QHD+ resolution. The OLED display will allow for Google Daydream support out of the box, fulfilling Google’s promise at I/O in May advising the next LG flagship will support Daydream.
Design wise, the LG V30 will be coming with a mirror finish glossy rear that could include Mil-Spec standard endurance with IP68 water and dust resistance. You can also expect a Quad DAC for high quality audio and we’re all expecting a Snapdragon 835 and 6GB of RAM under the hood.
The LG V30 will be launched on press day at IFA on August 31st in Berlin, so stay tuned for that event.
