Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi will be holding a launch event for a new phone on September 5th, setting rumours wagging that we may finally see their rumoured Android One handset.

Xiaomi has been active on social media in the past 24 hours, teasing a dual-camera handset to be launched at the event in India. The teaser says that the new phone will be ‘a whole new series by Xiaomi’ which could be the Android One model, which carries the model Xiaomi Mi A1.

As you can see, the animations and transitions are familiar to anyone who has watched the Pixel/Nexus boot animation recently.

The rumoured Xiaomi Mi A1 is said to be based on the as-yet unannounced Mi 5X. The Mi A1 is rumoured to be launching with dual-cameras, as well as a 5.5″ FullHD display, Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage.

Xiaomi would be one of the biggest manufacturers to announce an Android One handset. The Micromax Canvas A1 was quite impressive as a launch device for the Android One program, but it would be interesting to see what a Xiaomi model could do. We’ll be watching this event with keen interest.
