Telstra NRL Grand Final
The 2015 NRL Grand Final between the Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys at ANZ Stadium in Sydney kicks off this afternoon. As major sponsor of the NRL, Telstra is hosting a small event at the Grand Final to show off some of their new technology, namely LTE-B or LTE Broadcast.

The Telstra demo will be feeding various streams from broadcaster Channel 9, to a selection of smartphones from Samsung, using an app from Intellicore and switching technology from EVS and back-end support from Expway and Ericsson technology for the broadcast technology. The LTE-B technology is hoped to be rolled out commercially in the next 12 months.

So, what is LTE Broadcast?

LTE-B provides the opportunity to deliver in-demand or popular content using one single stream of data, as opposed to each individual user downloading their own stream of data.

Using single source to stream to multiple receivers will take pressure off the Telstra network at events like the NRL Grand Final.

Telstra is using it for a sporting event today, but could roll it out to other live events like music festivals or trade shows. Where else could you see this technology being used?
