This here is a great example of why the Nexus Series of phones are the ones to get if you want your Android updates quicker than everyone else. It was just over a week ago when Google announced that Android 2.3.4 would bring Video Calling and Voice Chat to Google Talk, which is quite cool and has been long-awaited, even though it has been available for Honeycomb Tablets since day one. Vodafone has just pushed out this 2.3.4 update to the Nexus S which they’ve been advertising quite aggressively lately. A notification will appear in your notifications window when the update is available for you, and will ask for permission to download and install. Props go to Vodafone for not charging users for downloading the update over 3G. Voda also note that Google will be pushing out the update to the Nexus One ‘soon’.

if you own a Vodafone Nexus S and use a different network (eg. Telstra) do the updates from Vodafone still roll through?

I own my Nexus One outright and the updates came through this week (well I enabled background data this week) to run my updates.

Will need to check out the chat service. Read a little about it but haven’t used it.
