Update: Coming to Vodafone as well!

A little over a month ago we reported that Telstra was testing/finalising the HTC EVO 3D on their network, today Telstra have confirmed that the HTC EVO 3D will be the first three-dimensional phone to launch on their network. The EVO 3D will be a direct competitor to the recently launched LG Optimus 3D which calls Optus home. My experience with 3D has shown it’s still very much a gimmick, though I’m sure Lucas will confirm or deny that once he’s finished reviewing both the Optimus 3D and EVO 3D in the coming weeks.

The 3D experience will ‘come alive’ whilst taking 3D video, viewing 3D video or doing the same for photos. With reports of headaches being caused by the 3D on the Nintendo 3Ds, it’ll be interesting to see what the general consensus is about the 3D on mobile displays such as the EVO 3D. Oh yeah, and it’ll come pre-loaded with all of Telstra’s goodies such as the new TelstraOne application. For specs and videos, hit the break.

The specs are very much the same as the HTC Sensation:

  • Android 2.3.3 w/ Sense UI 3.0
  • 1.2GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU
  • 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) TFT LCD 3D Capacitive Display
  • Dual 5MP Rear Cameras w/ 1080p 2D and 720p 3D — 1.3MP Front Camera
  • HSPA 850/2100MHz 14.4Mbit / 5.76Mbit
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n as well as Bluetooth 3.0
  • 1GB of ROM and RAM

As you can see the HTC EVO 3D is nothing to be sniggered at in terms of specs, though performance is what we’re most interested in. Telstra made no mention of the device launching exclusively on their network, which leads us to believe it may also head to other carriers — Vodafone perhaps (update: yep, Vodafone!)? We don’t have any pricing or a specific launch date, but as soon as we find out we’ll let you know.
