Well it turns out our source was right on the ball when we were given the information last week regarding the HTC Wildfire S launching on Telstra Prepaid and being available at Dick Smith for $199. The device is available for purchase online right now in two colours — dark grey and silver — for $199 a piece. The Wildfire S will be available in store next week.

The Wildfire S features a 3.2-inch HVGA display, 600MHz CPU, 512MB RAM, 850/2100MHz 3G and 5MP Camera w/ Flash — not too shabby for $199. Hit up the source link to head over to Dick Smith.

Erm, our store has been selling them for the past 2 weeks… and we’ve had (pre-paid) stock for about a month now.

Available to buy online now… Most stores are reporting they will receive stock in-store early next week.

Not a bad price for the phone really considering that it has Gingerbread on it. I guess the Huawei Sonic is one of its competitors. This could shape up to be a good phone for students because it’s available for a relatively low price without needing to sign up onto a plan.
