The guys over at ThisIsMyNext have just advised that Google and Samsung have officially announced the ‘Galaxy Nexus’ 45 mins ahead of the official announcement which we`ll all be able to see on the Android Developer Youtube channel. First the name is the Galaxy Nexus, no sign of the Nexus Prime or Galaxy Prime so love it or hate it we`re stuck with it.
Update : The phone will be available in USA, Europe, and Asia beginning in November and then rolled out globally. We`ll let everyone know what Mobicity can do for us as soon as we can.
Update 2 : No MicroSD Card Slot so you have to make do with the 16 or 32Gb onboard storage, the 1.2GHz CPU is confirmed as a TI OMAP 4460 CPU, no info yet on the GPU. I`ll update when I can confirm.
Now to get down to business, the specifications :

LTE versions available dependant on region, but we have the full range of Australian frequencies supported : 850MHz, 900MHz and 2100MHz and it will be HSPA+ 21 Mbps.
We`re around 40 mins out from getting a good look at this new phone and getting the goods on Ice Cream Sandwich and also when we can get our hands on this little beauty. We`ll be posting stuff up as it happens so keep an eye out for updates.
Still superior to the iPhone 4S, 1.2ghz processor is actually a 1.5ghz chip, that is underclocked to save battery life, so this will be the fastest phone on the market, best screen on the market, best OS on the market, and just the best phone on the market
Wouldnt the galaxy s2 be a 1.5ghz chip too, just underclocked as well? cause i can overclock mine to 1.6
But this phone looks great, slightly better than the galaxy but not good enough for me to switch. Only betters it in the screen, OS (which should be updated soon) and the quick camera thing
No, the Exynos chip inside the Galaxy S II is 1.2GHz.
It was initially going to be released at an underclocked speed of 1GHz, however, to compete with the HTC Sensation, Samsung pushed the speed back up to the original 1.2GHz.
The new Exynos chip that Samsung just announced is 1.5GHz out of the box.
Interested to see the review and how it stacks up against the SGS2. Keen to see some benchmarks on that CPU also. Bummer about the lack of micro SD…but that said, like others, I don’t use it really anyway. Just for backup. Apart from the screen…which maybe..pentile??? (No SAMOLED “+” branding just SAMOLED HD…so whether that applies or that SAMOLED Plus HD was just too much of a mouthful)…is it worth an upgrade, since I have the SGS2 I’m guessing not and holding out for SGS3, hoping they don’t pull a rotten apple and drop a SGS2s on us 😛
From memory Engadget had a ‘leaked’ slide from a presentation internal to Samsung that showed an SGS3 due to for ‘2012’. I think I’ll just wait for that :/
I saw a video review of the Galaxy Note which also has a Super AMOLED HD – the guy asked the Samsung rep whether it was Super AMOLED Plus HD or just Super AMOLED HD and the rep said it does not include the technology that the Plus screens use.
Interesting to know. If that’s the case I hope they rectify this in the sgs3 because although the sgs2 is less PPI than the original sgs the pixels are more noticeable so if its higher density PPI but based on the original tech from the 1st one and has a larger screen…its not going to be visibly clearer PPI than the 2… i know that sounds confusing, hope u get what I meant.

But i must admit i was expecting slighty better hardware specs being a flagship phone etc…
and not just a currently average spec’d phone (compared to other similer handsets in this generation) that just happens to be the first example of a phone with ICS.

I thought it compares well with the trend of Nexus vs. the top of the crop at the time (Nexus One vs. Droid, Nexus S vs. i9000). Bit weirded out by the 5MP camera though, considering 8MP seems the norm now.
I thought the nexus line was supposed to be a developers phone, not the fastest greatest best phone, but one that showcases all the features of the os it was released with! And open to flash custom builds for development etc. So it ticks all the boxes on that front!
The specifications aren’t that impressive… well, except for that screen. That’s some good stuff.
I think the big thing is the new OS, and how well it operates.

no sd card is a bit of a bummer, but in saying that i dont use it on my SGS. to be fair i dont listen to a lot of music or watch movie on it. just books and after i finish one i delete it

The “beam” technology sounds interesting although I think you’ll need a NFC hardware in your phone to be able to use it.

face unlock sounds cool but i think the pattern unlock is quicker so ill be using that

i would say the choice of 1.2 was based on battery life, i remember reading this chip can be clocked up to 1.5 but they chose 1.2
Not me. The lack of available ram on my original galaxy s is more of a problem than any processor speed issues (I like browsing with lots of tabs open). In fact, drop the clocks to 800MHz and add another GB of ram and I’d be happier.
The new nexus looks like it will be a decent and reasonably priced replacement for me come contract renewal time next year.
P.S hoping the prime has some form of hdmi out and a sd type card slot for storage upgrades
Never having owned any form of Android phone before but looking to make the change, im avidly looking forward to hard stats on both the prime and the HTC vigor for my next purchase, my 3gs has down me extremely well in the last few years but now is a great time to upgrade.
