Looks like Instagram has just released their app for Android into the Google Play Store. So what is Instagram? It`s a social photo sharing application that allows you to ‘follow’ users and see which shots they have uploaded. Instagram also allows users to add different filters and borders to their photos, which you can then share to Twitter, Facebook, TUmblr, FourSquare and soon Flickr. The app requires Android 2.2 and above and is a relatively small download at 13MB and it’s free, so you may as well give it a go.

The app appears to be the same as the iOS version with the same filters and functions. With over 30 million registered users, 1 Billion photo uploads at 5 million photos a day, Instagram appears to be pretty popular and the popularity seems set to continue with over 430 thousand Android users signed up to their waiting list. I get the whole social ‘following’ someone’s photo stream, I personally want to follow a few people’s streams, what I don’t get right now is the need to take a beautifully shot photo and throw a filter on it that removes most of the detail just to make it look ‘artistic’. Anyway, it’s out, go grab it from the Play Store.
