Oppo R819
After finding pretty widespread success with the Oppo Find 5, Oppo has released a follow-up device, the oddly named – Oppo R819.

With slightly lower end specifications the Oppo R819 is intended by Oppo to expand theeir global presence offering a phone they describe as ‘an enticing blend of beauty, performance, versatility, and affordability’.

The other trick that Oppo are offering is a skinned version of Android 4.2 as well as a stock Jelly Bean experience. Oppo themselves describe the options for OS as :

OPPO believes in having the freedom to run the operating system of your choice to get the experience you want from your R819. Use the original ROM, or install OPPO’s Color ROM, which will soon be available, for a completely fresh take on Android that was developed with OPPO fans and is frequently updated. R819 can also run Stock Android, the Android experience as Google intended, for a fast, smooth user experience with familiar Google apps.

Specs on the Oppo R819 include :

  • 4.7” 720P HD 1280×720 IPS Display (312 PPI)
  • 1.2GHz MT6589 Quad-core CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB onboard storage
  • 8MP Rear Camera – Sony Exmor BSI with LED flash and dedicated ISP and 2MP ‘Wide angle’ Front Facing Camera
  • WiFi, Bluetooth: 3.0, GPS, FM-Radio
  • Dual SIM including
    • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
    • WCDMA: 850/900/2100MHz
  • Android 4.2.1
  • 136.5x68x7.3mm @ 110grams
  • 2,000mAh Battery

At $399 the Oppo R819 is priced as a mid-range phone, the inclusion of a lower end CPU, only 1GB RAM, 16GB of onboard storage with no expandable storage will certainly give pause to a number of people, but the option of stock Android is definitely attractive.

The Oppo R819 is available to pre-order now through Expansys Australia and will be shipping in the 2nd week of September.
