Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-3-Kids

Not only do Samsung have a device to cover every existing market, they’re thinking up new markets to which they can tailor devices. Enter the Galaxy Tab Kids, a 7-inch, rubber-covered variant of the Galaxy Tab 3. The specs are not great, but really, they don’t need to be –

  • 1.2 GHz dual-core processor
  • 7-inch, 1024×600 resolution display (170PPI)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8 GB storage space with microSD card slot
  • 3 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front camera
  • 4,000mAh battery

Samsung have decided to create a new UI overlay for the device, tailored specifically to children, with its own custom application store and a time management feature that restricts how much time kids spend on the tablet each day. Thanks Samsung, you’ve really got inattentive parents covered. The UI will probably be awash with pastel colours, large fonts and big icons, which actually explains a lot of what’s going on with TouchWiz.

Criticisms aside, I think tablet computers can be a fantastic educational tool, and the Galaxy Tab Kids actually shows a lot of potential. Samsung have also created an ‘easy-to-grip’ stylus for the device, which is sold with the ‘Kids Case’ accessory. The tablet is said to be pre-loaded with educational apps, games, entertainment and e-books. It will be available in Korea in early September, and in other regions later on.

Can they price it to something that’s payable by some small savings of a kid’s allowance?

Chris

That’d be nice if they could 😉
