Optus Z1 and Z Ultra
Optus has today advised that the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra are now available to pre-order on the Optus 4G network via tele-sales, online and in-store, with an official launch availability date of the 1st of October. Both the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra are water and dust-proof with IP55 and IP58 Certification.

Xperia Z1

The recently announced Xperia Z1 is available on Optus for pre-order through their mini-site, on a variety of plans beginning from just $55 per month – $35 My Plan with $20 per month handset repayments. With a 5″ Full HD Trilumionos Display, the Xperia Z1 also offers what Sony describe as ‘The world’s best camera in a waterproof smartphone’. Sony include some pretty decent hardware to back up the claim, with a 1/2.3โ€ 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor included as well as an ‘award-winning’ G Lens and BIONZ for mobile image processing is also included in the software.

A 2.2GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 processor is the brains behind the Xperia Z1 and is paired with 2GB of RAM. The Xperia Z1 comes with 16GB of on-board storage as well as a microSD Card slot supporting up to 64GB of external storage.

Xperia Z Ultra

If the 5″ screen of the Xperia Z1 is just too small for your liking, then the 6.4″ Xperia Z Ultra is probably more suited to you. Optus are offering this part phone, part tablet, all phablet from just $58 per month – $35 My Plan + $23 per month handset repayments.

With almost identical specifications to the Xperia Z1, but with a smaller 8MP camera, the Xperia Z Ultra still offers the 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SOC, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage with microSD Card slot.

Optus ZUltra Plans

Both the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra are compatible with the 1800MHz 4G network but unfortunately not the 4G Plus network that was recently expanded, indeed if you’re in Canberra, unfortunately this phone is not compatible with the Optus 4G network in your area. The phones are available to pre-order now, so head over to the Optus website, into a store or give Optus a call for more details and to check out their plans on these two phones.

Optus has not mentioned an outright price for the handset which confirms what I have read on a couple of other sites. The Z1 is very expensive, a price in fact that only a very few might be prepared to pay. If correct, the much larger (huge) Ultra will end up in even fewer homes or offices, costing the same as a multitude of decent desktop and ultrabook systems. I really hope I’m wrong, because Sony does make innovative… Read more ยป
