LG’s first commercially available smartphone, the G Flex, has finally been announced by the South Korean company and it looks like it will be staying in its home country for the time being — launching on all 3 major carriers there.
While the naming may suggest the phone is flexible, it really isn’t. Instead the G Flex makes use of a curved 6-inch 720p — no 1080p for now, ladies and gents — OLED display which allows for its curved design. Under the hood you’ll find a 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU,, 2GB of RAM, 13MP camera, and a sizeable 3,500mAh battery.
Another unique feature on the G Flex is a “self-healing” technology that supposedly removes any minor scratches on the rear of device within minutes. Without knowing exactly how it works, it’s likely a compound that will repair itself when warmed up breaking bonds and then when cooled it will repair the broken bonds — ie. warmed up by the CPU when in use, then cools when the device is not in use.
There’s no word on a launch outside of South Korea for now though it’s unlikely.

Why a curved screen? What’s the reason for this?
Flat screens are far too mainstream, must go back to old-school curved screens
So a high-end phone with high-end internals, but the one part the entire phone is created around (the curved screen) is only 720p, while also being enormous which highlights the issue.
Really, LG?
I’d like to see the self-healing in action. That sounds great.
It’s not hugely impressive – proper scuffs or cracks will be there permanently, and it doesn’t increase durability in any way.
Most oleophobic screen coatings that almost all modern smartphones use are technically ‘self-healing’ from hairline scratches too.
