LG has just announced availability for the highly anticipated LG G2 in Australia. The G2 will be launching on Optus as the exclusive carrier and through selected Australian retailers in Black and White on November 4th.
The LG G2 is an absolute dream of a phone, which I personally found out when I reviewed the handset. The phone offers an absolutely smooth user experience and absolutely gorgeous screen, as well as a new ergonomic design which sees the main controls for power and volume located on the back of the handset. There is also a pretty decent software package on-board the G2, with LG including their QSlide and QuickMemo applications as well as introducing new features such as Guest Mode and Quick Remote. The Camera is one of the better ones that I’ve used offering Optical Image Stabilisation on a 13MP sensor.
LG has partnered with Optus to sell the phone exclusively on their network which matches up well with the newly launched 4G Plus network. Jonathon Banks, Head of Mobile Communications at LG Australia said
This is one of the most highly-anticipated smartphones of the year, and we are proud to announce its arrival with Optus and our key retail partners in Australia. The partnership with Optus involved R&D collaboration to enable the G2 to support the new Optus 4G Plus network. This combined with innovative hardware design makes G2 a very compelling proposition for Australian consumers.
Optus will be selling the phone in their stores and online on their Optus MyPlans, offering 24 month contracts on the $50 My Plan with a Monthly Handset repayment of $5 per month or on the $60 My Plan with no handset repayments. The LG G2 is one of the first phones compatible with both the standard Optus 4G Network as well as their 4G Plus network which uses TD-LTE technology operating on the 2300MHz frequency.

The G2 will also be available from retailers for outright purchase Allphones, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi in both 16GB and 32GB versions. The 16GB model will retail for $649 while the the 32GB version will be priced at $50 more at $699. LG has advised that the first 10,000 customers who purchase the LG G2 will receive Quick Window flip cover as a bonus.

Does anyone know the JB hifi pricing?
Very competitive pricing though. Most flagship phones aren’t free until you hit the $80 range. I wonder how this would be with just Nova launcher over the LG UI.
Any idea if the 4G plus will really affect the development of custom ROMs? I know there are ROMs already for the overseas G2’s.
$529 for the D820 from Kogan, vs $644 for the D820T from Hardly Normal vs probably $489 for the N5 from Google.
Hmm, that’s a bit crowded. The 820T isn’t worth the extra really for most people, and the N5 isn’t cheap enough for what it lacks of the G2.
The key bit is there have been many leaks of stock on the N5 around the world, showing Google are after a simultaneous launch. But nothing from Australia. Does nobody here have it?

so choose wisely
The choice is simple. I don’t care about 0.2″ larger screen (IMO 5″ alone is too big) and the difference between an 8MP and 13MP camera is minimal to me (I wont crop and zoom all that much). Would love the 3000mAh battery though, but a pure Google experience is priceless
Yup this is my thinking. Just Hoping 4.4 brings a battery efficiency feature or something.
Not all about the size though, the quality of the screen on the G2 is amazing, easily one of the best screens I’ve ever seen and used.
