Xperia M2 1

While most of the focus of Sony’s MWC event was on its 2 new flagships, the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Tablet Z2, they also announced another phone, the Sony Xperia M2. Following on from last year’s Xperia M, the M2 is a 4.8-inch phone aimed at the mid-range market, with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, a 960×540-pixel display, 8-megapixel camera, 2300mAh battery and LTE.

Like it’s predecessor, the M2 will be available in a few different colours; black, white, and purple. The M2 will be running Android 4.3 at first, but Sony promises an update to Kit Kat in the coming months. Like the rest of Sony’s recent Xperia range, the M2 is completely waterproof, which should prevent any water-related mishaps wrecking your phone.

Sony says the Xperia M2 will be available around April through major telecommunications retailers as well as Sony’s direct channels, such as Sony Centres and their online Sony Store. They have also advised that a dual-SIM version, the M2 Dual, will be released later in the year.

The M2 certainly isn’t going to set the world on fire but, assuming the price is right, it could certainly provide an affordable option for those who are looking for a decent LTE-enabled phone but don’t want the size or price of the flagship models. We’ll keep you updated on actual release information as we get it.
