Asus unveils a new range of tablets and multi-format devices at Computex

It’s Computex time and of course that means that Asus has taken the opportunity to unveil a range of new products at the regions largest tech show. Asus has unveiled a new range of MeMO Pads, Fonepads, Transformer Pads all running Intel 64-bit Intel Atom Processors, and then launched a bit of a surprise in the Transformer Book V, a dual Windows/Android laptop, which integrates an Android phone.

Fonepad and MeMO Pad

First, we have a new range of Fonepad and MeMO Pad tablets unveiled by ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih. The MeMO Pad series comes with 64-bit Intel Atom Processors, but offer different clock speeds and chipsets on the 8″ models. While all the MeMO Pad tablets include at least a 720P display, they also included a high-end 8″ model (ME581CL) which includes a Full HD IPS display.

Specs for the MeMO Pad tablets :

The FonePad tablets also include 64-bit Intel processors, using the Intel Atom Z3560. As ‘Fone’pads they naturally come with 3G capability as well, though their bands have not yet been listed on the Asus website. The Fonepad series will be Dual-SIM and come in black, white, gold and red.

Specs for the FonePad tablets :

All the Fonepad and MeMO Pad tablets include Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Asus ZenUI, an all-new intuitive user interface which Asus has developed which includes over 1000 software enhancements, as well as a new visual design. The new ZenUI apparently includes ‘modern ‘flat’ icons, vivid color themes, animations, new ringtones and notification sounds’.

The Transformer Pad series has also seen an update, which includes a new 64-bit Intel processor, which this time is the Atom Z3745 processor. The Transformer Pads famous keyboard dock has seen a new update which includes a new ‘hidden hinge design’. There’s a newly designed ergonomic chiclet keyboard which includes one-touch function keys for things like screen capture and delete.

While both Transformer pads include Wifi, the TF303CL model also includes Cat 4 4G LTE, offering up to 150Mbit/s speeds, making it the perfect machine for on the go computing.

The Transformer Pad series will also come with Android 4.4 as well as the Asus ZenUI as described above.

Transformer Book V

Last, but by no means least is the Transformer Book V, ‘the world’s first five-mode, three-in-one converged laptop’. The Transformer Book V offers a Windows 8.1 Laptop, which can also run Android 4.4 KitKat, switching between the two by means of a dedicated hardware button on the keyboard, providing ‘instant and seamless switching between the two operating systems’.

The Transformer Book V has 5 modes in all: a Windows Laptop, Android Laptop, Windows Tablet, Android Tablet but only when you dock the Android phone into the back of it. Spec wise the Transformer Book V offers a 12.5″ HD IPS Display, 1TB of stoirage and runs an Intel Core processor, though they haven’t specified which one. The tablet by itself though, will only contain 128GB of storage.

The key, interesting part of the Transformer Book V is the dockable phone. The Phone has a 5″ screen and holds the distinction of being the very first 5-inch LTE enabled smartphone running an Intel Atom quad-core processor.

The Transformer Book V is looking at all day battery life and offers a 2500mAh battery to theoretically power the device for up to 10 hours of web browsing.

Asus Australia, supplied the releases for the new range of tablets, but was unable to advise which of the MeMO Pads, Fonepads, Transformer Pads will be coming to Australia, or if we will see the Transformer Book V down under. We’ll update as soon as we hear anything further.
