Optus has today announced a range of new consumer plans that allow customers to pay a combined fee for mobile network access on multiple devices, allowing them once and for all to say goodbye to a second bill just for having a SIM in their tablet.

Dubbed the ‘My Plan’, Optus’ new offering will come with two SIMs to use in different devices, but the data usage across both services is merged into a single account; there’s no additional charge for a second device on a My Plan except for the $5 SIM fee (once off). It seems that there’s a sting in the tail though; this new offering is precisely that. My Plan is only available to new customers (or new contracts) — if you’re an existing Optus customer on contract, you’ll need to re-contract to access this offer.

The last feature of the new My Plans is an automatic data top-up facility which adds 1GB of mobile data to a user’s account if they reach their included data limit, at $10 per top-up.

Here’s all the details on the new pricing:

Is optus the only telco offering this for free right now?

Joshua Hill

Great idea. Unfortunately I’ve yet to see any offer that is even close to comparable to the $30 contract I’m on. I get 3.2Gb of 4G data using the Optus network and about $200 of calls. As I use data way more than voice it is phenomenal value.

Andrew Nguyen

How did you get it?

Joshua Hill

Virgin mobile $30 BYO plan + $10 extra data contract. $30 plan is $200 calls plus 200mb data but with bonus 1gb data when I signed up and take off $10 if you BYO phone which I did. So for $20 a month I was getting 1.2gb and $200 of calls.

I recently put a Bluetooth head unit in my car and stream Google play music while driving so needed to up my data. $10 for 1Gb data plus bonus 1Gb data if you sign up on contract with a minimum term of only 6 months.

Yeah, I’m on a $19 plan with Virgin that is awesome. $29 plan – $10 for BYOP and I get $450 worth of calls (with rollover) and 2.2GB of data. Was a special plan that they offered about a year ago that my wife and I switched to. I’ve looked around and never found anything since that even compares!

Joshua Hill

The rollover is great and the fact that they exclude voicemail and a lot of 13 and 18 numbers from the included value, although for all I know that could be standard practice for the competitors too?

I have had patchy coverage throughout Western Sydney on occasion which doesn’t seem to be the case with my friends coverage on the competitors.

Plans come in June 10 I think

There’s a second sting in this.
It looks to be contract only, not pre-paid.

guest

or Month to Month which isn’t exactly a “contract”.. unless you think a month is too long.

JeniSkunk

They’re STILL post-paid contracts.
None of those Month to Month contracts are the Optus pre-paid plans.
