As with every Samsung flagship, it’s only been a matter of time until Samsung announces variants of their flagship – the Galaxy S5, and tonight Samsung has announced the Galaxy S5 Mini.

The Galaxy S5 Mini continues the tradition of being a mini in name as well as specs, offering a 720P 4.5¨ display with 1.4GHz Quad-Core processor and 1.5GB RAM. Its a more compact form factor but with the same design stylings as the main flagship phone, offering the dimpled, ‘premium, soft touch grip’ on the rear case.

The Galaxy S5 mini does come with some of the main headlining features of the full sized Galaxy S5, bringing along the Fingerprint scanner and Heart Rate sensor, it also brings along the IP67 water and dust resistance of the full Galaxy S5.

Software wise you can expect Android 4.4 (KitKat) with the usual Samsung additions. This should include all the S-Health integration with the Heart Rate sensors and of course the Fingerpring security settings.

The Galaxy S5 Mini will be launching in Russia, before rolling out globally. The phone will be available in the same colour options as the full sized Galaxy S5: Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. While pricing hasn’t been announced as yet, it should come with a slightly smaller price tag as well.

If it was available for Optus 4G, and it was available here as a GPE device, yeah, I’d consider getting one.
But if it was only available here as a TouchWiz device, then its no sale.
