Galaxy-Tab-Active_19-with-C-Pen
Just when you thought Samsung could not possibly find yet another tablet variation to release they come out and prove you wrong. Just as they did with their phones Samsung at IFA 2014 have released a tablet version that is water and dust resistant, the Galaxy Tab Active.

SamMobile, who often have the inside scoop on Samsung devices, describe the Galaxy Tab Active as coming with “mostly mid-range specs” although it seems a stretch to call them mid-range in my opinion. The specs include:

  • 8in LCD Display, 1280 x 800 pixels
  • Snapdragon 400 quad core CPU
  • 1.5GB RAM
  • 3.1MP rear camera
  • 16GB internal memory
  • MicroSD slot
  • 4,450 mAh removable battery
  • 8-10 hour battery life
  • 126.2 x 213.1 x 9.75mm, 393gm
  • Android 4.4 KitKat

The tablet comes with IP67 certification and is water and dust resistant as stated before. The tablet can also apparently survive a drop from 1.2m with its anti-shock covering. Samsung have also included a C-Pen to allow users to interact with the device even when wearing gloves as many industries do. The tablet comes with a screen protector for that final bit of protection for on the go use. It will come in both LTE and Wifi variants and while pricing hasn’t been announced we would expect it to be competitively priced as Samsung have started to do, especially considering its low-mid-range specs.

There is no word yet as to if and when it will be available in Australia but keep an eye on Ausdroid if this tablet interests you.

Update:
Samsung Australia are working late, they’ve advised us that the Galaxy Tab Active will be heading our way later this year. They provided the following statement :

Samsung Australia is excited to announce that the Galaxy Tab Active will be launching in Australia. We will share more information about pricing and availability closer to the on-sale date.
