Huawei Ascend G7 - Colours
Huawei has already introduced their newest phablet, the Ascend Mate 7, but have also introduced another phablet at their IFA 2014 event. While the Ascend Mate 7 is at the higher end of the range, the Ascend G7 will be aimed at the low to mid-range market.

With a 5.5″ 1280×720 resolution screen, the Ascend G7 isn’t going to be mistaken for a small phone. The phone does however feature a metallic unibody design which will see many people draw comparisons to another phone from a prominent manufacturer. The phones metal body will be made available in three colours including moonlight silver, space gray, and horizon gold.

It’s a fairly powerful device as well, in a departure from their recent handsets which have featured their in-house developed Kirrin processors, the Ascend G7 will feature a Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.2 GHz.

The phones size allows Huawei to squeeze a 3000 mAh Li-Polymer battery into the chasis. Huawei have included some battery management technology as well, which Huawei estimate will allow 1.2 days of ‘heavy usage’ and then using the power save modes, give you up to 24 hours on just 10% battery power.

With 4G LTE Cat4 which offers up to 150Mbps download speeds, the Ascend G7 is a pretty decent LTE phone. Huawei have also included what they call ‘intelligent antenna switching technology’ which they claim will allow for a more consistent network signal and reduced dropped calls.

Huawei have gone wide with their camera setups on the Ascend G7, offering a 28mm wide-angle BSI lens on the 13MP rear camera, and an 88-degree wide-angle lens on the 5MP front-facing camera. Huawei also include manual focus on the camera software, as well as the ability to take quick snaps with the down volume button.

Ascend G7 - EMUI 3

Just like the Ascend Mate 7, the Ascend G7 will also come with the Huawei custom skinned version of Android – EMUI 3.0. The latest version of EMUI offers one-handed optimisations for use on a large screen phone like the Ascend G7.

The Ascend G7 isn’t looking likely for Australia, with their final slides from the presentation listing the pricing (€299) and availability which shows Australia is not on the list.
